SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

A Simple Guide

The sustainable fashion industry is fast growing, and something we are keen to be a part of. Some of our key clothing brands including Soya Concept and Vero Moda are taking steps to use more sustainable materials in their production. While trying to shop sustainably can be overwhelming and confusing, it doesn’t have to be. Below is a list of some of the sustainable materials used in our products and an explanation of what makes them a more responsible choice. Every change helps, and we hope this makes sustainable shopping a little easier for you.

Recycled Polyster

Choosing recycled polyester reduces the human and environmental impact by reducing the extraction of natural resources. It is made from PET waste plastics and can be recycled numerous times, meaning it doesn’t take up agricultural land or consume large amounts of water.

Sustainable Viscose

Responsibly produced viscose differs from conventional viscose by ensuring that the natural resources used are replaced. Every time a tree is cut down, a new tree is planted. Compared to conventional viscose production, the production of responsibly produced viscose is responsible for up to 50% fewer emissions. It uses half as much energy and water, and the pulp-bleaching process is 100% chlorine-free. Viscose produced with consideration for the environment cleans and reuses resources like water and chemicals, saving up to 50% of water use.

Viscose Livaeco by Birla Cellulose

Livaeco by Birla Cellulose is a handmade cellulose fibre derived from pulp, which comes from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests and is traceable along the supply chain. It requires less water, produces lower greenhouse gas emissions and is biodegradable.

Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is a fibre that respects the environment and the people who cultivate and process it. By only cultivating and growing with natural fertilisers, we ensure soil fertility and the safety of the farmers. Only natural fertilisers are involved in the production, and production enhances biodiversity.
